Our History
Liberty Center is a private, non-profit organization providing out-of-school-time services, childcare services and a full-time summer program to children from 3 to 21 years of age. Liberty Center, established in 1995, is the realization of years of planning and commitment to meet the urgent need of providing out-of-school-time care for children with disabilities and their families. Liberty Center opened its doors for business on January 2, 1996, serving eight children between the ages of six and seventeen. We are unique, as we are the only organization in South Dakota that offers services to all children while specializing in the provision of quality service to those with disabilities. Liberty Center, governed by a Board of Directors, is a fully licensed day care center through the South Dakota Department of Social Services and a United Way partner agency.
Our Philosophy
We believe all children are unique in their talents, interests and abilities. Every child is valuable, and each child’s thoughts, interests, skills, needs, abilities and disabilities deserve our care and attention. We believe the foundation of a child’s self worth is built on caring and kindness. Children should experience nothing less while entrusted in our care.
Our Dream
Liberty Center is a guiding force of excellence in the provision of care to all children of all abilities.
Administration
Liberty Center is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors compromised of parents, corporate and community members. Their professional expertise in areas such as human services, legal issues, and finance are a great asset to Liberty Center.
The day-to-day management of Liberty Center is the direct responsibility of the Executive Director. Along with the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for educational content, programming and providing children exposure to new experiences and opportunities. Our direct care staff are committed to quality care and education. They possess many characteristics including caring, fairness, enthusiasm, consistency, and flexibility. We consider our staff to be teachers, facilitators, observers, researchers and motivators who, with the children, delight in learning. Together with parents, we work to promote optimal development for each child.
